Trixie sits on Santa’s lap

It’s right there on the front page of our newspaper.

Santa gets a look from Trixie the poodle while…

it goes on to state that  Pet nights will be held on Dec 4 and 11 from 6 - 9pm.

My first thought was, “How pathetic”

Then… (more…)

Is Society Based on Fear?

As part of what I do for a living, I am exposed to a lot of differing view points.  Some I agree with.  Some, I disagree with.  And some, I’d like to agree with, but can’t.

This post:

Is Society Based on Fear? - Fearless Dreams

What are we most afraid to talk about?
Our fears.

Uh.  No.  What we are most afraid of is that we don’t measure up.  That we are somehow deficient.  That we’ve “missed the mark” as he says later.  In short, we are afraid that someone will find out that we are.. dare I say the word even… sinners!

Ack!

This post goes on later:

But let’s look closely at the ideal that we’re supposed to chase.
We would all love to perfect, without doubts, and afraid of nothing.

Sorry. We’ve missed the boat.
Confidence doesn’t mean to live without doubt, and courage doesn’t mean to live without fear.

Confidence is having trust in yourself, feeling that you’ll be able to act in the face of uncertainty, and ambiguity.

Courage is the ability to act in the face of fear.

Am I missing something here?  He touches right up against the very thing we are afraid of the most.  Not being perfect.  Then he goes on to say that what we are afraid of is that we are afraid?

He then goes on to say that what we need to do is to not be afraid.  Let’s see, I’m afraid of being afraid and the thing I’m suppose to do to not be afraid is to not be afraid?  What kind of nonsense is this?  If I could do that now, I wouldn’t be afraid in the first place.

“Nothing to fear but fear itself.”  Might work for politicians.  But, in the real world we need something a bit more practical.

If I’m paralyzed by my fears.  Paralyzed by my sin.  What I need is help!  Not some “pull yourself up by your own bootstraps” hogwash.

In short, what you need if you are in this situation, is Jesus.

OK, I realize that not everyone who reads this blog will care or even know why you should care.  But, there are a few who may and you might after you read the section below, “Why You Just Might Care.”

on your PC.
4. (Optional) You can upgrade to Camtasia Studio 5 if you
want to for just $149. That’s a savings of $150 over the
full price of $299.

Why you just might care

I use camtasia to clean up the audio recordings we do each Sunday of the sermons at our church.  We use a simple MP3 recorder that was designed primarily to do dictation.  Our pastor places this on the side of the podium and turns it on just before he starts the sermon and turns it off just after he says, “Let’s pray,” at the conclusion of the sermon.  Camtasia does a real nice job of cleaning up the recording so that it sound almost as good as if we had done it with a microphone into a sound board, etc…

I also use it to record how-to sessions for some of my clients and have even used it to show a tech support person that I really am having a problem with their software, and the exact steps I use to reproduce the problem.
