Got your own Blog? Try this…

So, one of the first things I did when I started this blog is to try to find a blog editor that would allow me to write my blog entries without being “on the web”  While both blogger (my previous platform) and WordPress (my current platform) have a pretty respectable WYSIWYG editor available.  I wanted something with a little more power.

So, I went off to Google and did my normal search routine and found… (more…)

WHY I moved

So, why would someone move their blog immediately after starting it?  I mean, I only had that other one up for a week or two.  And why would you move from something that’s as easy to use as blogger, to something you have to host yourself and be something of a geek to use?

Well, like I said in the transition post yesterday, I’m trying to learn Web 2.0, Social Bookmarking and Social Networking.  Specifically, I’m trying to learn these items as they relate to running a business on the Internet.  The only way I know of learning this stuff is by setting it all up and doing it.

So, so far, I’m using WordPress 2.3 with a few plug-ins that all the pros say I have to have:

  • Askimet - Prevents comment spam.
  • All in One SEO Pack - re-arranges titles and things so the search engines have a better idea of what each page is about.
  • Social Bookmarks - puts that block of images at the bottom to encourage people to book mark the post in their favorite social bookmarking site.
  • What Would Set Godin Do - Encourages you to subscribe to the blog the first three times you come.
  • Wordbook - allows the post I put up here to notify my Facebook account that  I have a new post, which then tells all my friends that I’ve posted something.

And of course, I’ve added some additional javascript that will allow me to

  • use Google Analytics to see how many visitors I’m getting and how they found my site
  • hyper link word to Amazon books
  • and put Google Adsense at the top of each post.

So, welcome to my test bed.
