On Praying

My Pastor blogged about a post he saw on The Secret to a Better Prayer Life In his post he mentions that he thinks the ACTS method of prayer is helpful and Biblical. No big surprise there, he uses that form nearly every Sunday morning during the “Pastoral Prayer”

Can Satan Steal Our Time?

A friend of mine posted the following video on my facebook wall:

You don’t have to watch it if you don’t want.  I’ll give you the gist of it.  Satan couldn’t find any better way to trip up Christians so he decided to make us all too busy to get to know our savior.

The problem with this presentation is that it is ALMOST true.  But, the truth is, we do what we do based on what we value.  Maybe it’s my recent exposure to Piper’s Christian Hedonism.  But, I’ve been thinking recently about why people do or don’t do things.  And put quite simply, the reason we do or don’t do things is not because we don’t have time.  Being “too busy” is an excuse.  The reason we do or don’t do things is because they either are or are not priorities for us.

We don’t learn a new skill that we know we should, because knowing that skill is not a priority.  We don’t study for a test, because that’s not a priority.  We don’t study the scriptures to show ourselves approved, because knowing the scriptures is not a priority.  We don’t pray because fellowship with God is not a priority.

And things become priorities, or not, based on what we value.

No, Satan didn’t make us too busy.  He just convinced us all that all of the stuff that keeps us busy is more important than all the stuff that SHOULD keep us busy.

In our gathering of Christian believers, the men of the church read a passage of scripture and then lead the congregation in a prayer that is a reflection of the passage.  Yesterday was my turn.  The following is the prayer related to the passage above.
