What’s a Wii?
It’s a really cool game machine. Check it out the old folks bowling on the wii.
What is head tracking?”
It is having a computer track where your head is relative to the screen so that the screen can show you a different picture relative to where your head is. By moving your head, you can fake your eyes into believing that a two dimensional picture is is three dimensional.
Why would anyone care?
Well, mostly you’d care if you were a video game player. Especially first person role playing games, because it would give you an added sense of reality. Right now these game give you a sense of three dimensions by moving the picture. But the picture is the same regardless of where you are. And even the best gamers will admit that it isn’t quite the same as the real deal. Using head tracking gets us MUCH closer to the real deal.
But, how about putting this to practical use.
Let’s say that instead of getting an instruction manual, you got a head tracking enabled instruction cd. Now, instead of trying to figure out the diagram in the manual that tells you how to put together Johnny’s new toy. You can actually view, from multiple angles, the actual toy, in exploded view.. maybe with animation showing how it all fits together and can view that three dimensional diagram from multiple angles.
